Really loved your sharing. I have a few lists of inspiring art from Pinterest too, and I treat them the same way as you do. I would save tree number 5 and number 10 to my lists because they have the quality of depth I've been looking for in my practice. I have one question: you find no.4 speak to you the most, but I see the same quality of confident, bold brushwork in your works- maybe does it mean you like to move from representational to abstract completely?

You're very astute!

I love abstract art and feel that it's a direction that I'd like to pursue, but I also love painting "things". Every day I war with those inclinations in the studio:). If only it were clear cut.

I knew it. The big “light bulb” tree will live on in my brain! There is so much energy in it. Rich complex colours. Simplicity of shape. Similarly, I like the red-orange shirted wader

Ingrid, thank you for this terrific post

I'm pleased that you enjoyed it, Dianne!

That tree is gorgeous

Hi Ingrid,

My favorite of the trees is number 6. Don't know why. Maybe because it is somewhat impressionistic. All of your works that you posted are fabulous, but the last four are my favorites. Such simplicity conveying so much information/feeling from shadows and light and a bit of color. Thanks for posting. I feel it may take me decades to find my "style". I'm still in first grade. One last thought: I get the feel of an impressionistic Cezanne from your work. His work is too "detailed" but if he were a pure impressionist, I think his work would look a bit like yours. Hope that's not a hit!

Hi William,

I will never be upset to be linked in any way to Cezanne who is my idol! Thanks for this.

I hope you're doing well and getting a lot of painting time.

I thought you would like #4 😍…..I liked #12 I’m not sure why 🤷🏻‍♀️. I love your art work. I’m attracted to color a lot. I liked the child, probably because I love painting children and aspire to paint my grandchildren 🩷. Thank you 😊 it lifts my spirit to see your work.

I'm enjoying finding out all of the favourites that people have. It's so wonderful that we all have our unique preferences.

Thanks very much for reading and commenting, Mary Beth:)

When I critique paintings with friends I also use the final "grade" of whether I would hang it in my home. Thank you for sharing the tree and your images.

Yes, that's my test, too. It really gets to the gut level of our response to art.

Thanks for reading and commenting:)

Your small beachy paintings are very appealing..mmm

Thanks very much! I'm having a lot of fun with them:)

Don't you mean #3? Because #4 is extremely detailed and realistic.

You were so right. I misnumbered them and omitted number 1! Egads!

It's #4. The numbers are under the paintings they represent

I couldn't agree with you more about #4. There's a certain raw energy in those thick brushstrokes that makes my heart sing as well. As to the daily beach pieces--they are all expressive and equally compelling to me, but I really connected with the young boy, second to last.

I'm glad that he speaks to you, Michelle. I liked the cool, subdued palette of that piece
