It’s time for part 2 of my Painted History workshop!
I’ve taught The Painted History part 1 several times and, in recent sessions, was pleased to see several artists repeating the class, sometimes more than once.
The subject matter touches people because we work from our own meaningful photos rather than random Internet images. Many times, I’ve read comments in the class chat group about how wonderful it is to connect with relatives and memories in their photo albums.
The aim of The Painted History Part 2 is to move away from the literal reality of the photo reference and to bring our personal aesthetics to the forefront.
We’ll approach color and composition in our own work by learning from the masterworks of other artists, both contemporary and historical. So, a favourite painting by Sorolla may become the secondary resource for our own painting.
We’ll also explore the use of pattern, drawing, abstraction, and varying levels of finish.
Throughout, we’ll focus on:
creating lively, vibrant figures in a variety of poses
painting simplified, expressive faces
reimagining the space around the figure
revealing ourselves through our artistic choices
This workshop will be challenging, stimulating, and meaningful for anyone who takes it.
If you haven’t taken The Painted History part 1 but love to paint humanity, you’ll be fine in part 2. I’m a logical, methodical teacher and my goal is for everyone to advance from the level they started at in my class.
I give weekly feedback and answer any questions that you have either during the class or in our private chat group.
All of the lessons are recorded and are available for 60 days after the final class.
I hope you’ll join me!
Happy painting!
Will you be repeating the painted history part 1? I am more of a landscape painter though I’d like a lesson on portraiture or incorporating people into the landscapes.
