Online workshops in January
Call me organized: I’m booking my January, 2024 online workshops at Winslow Art Center!
Happily, I’ll be teaching 2 figurative workshops - my favourite subject:
The Painted History: A Fresh Look at the Family Album
Mondays Jan. 15 to Feb. 5, 2024 ONLINE
The Painted History has been my most requested workshop.
In it, we work on composing figures in their environments from your own photo references of family and friends. We create colour schemes for black and white images, come up with concepts for works and learn to design the canvas to convey those concepts. I also teach how to paint figures and faces in a loose, fuss-free way.
It’s a broad-reaching course that has resulted in deeply meaningful work from the many artists who have taken it.
The Figure: Graceful and Loose
Tuesdays, Jan. 16 - Feb. 6, 2024 ONLINE
The Figure: Graceful and Loose is devoted to creating figures that have accurate proportions, lively skin colours, believable faces, hands, and feet, and an overall sense of the organization of every body part around a single gesture.
I teach a wholistic, loose method for finding the figure that doesn’t rely on drawing or grids. Rather, it uses key angles and body part relationships to form figures that have volume, movement, and energy.
We integrate the figure into its environment with an emphasis on using colour and light to enhance the figure.
Where The Family History is broad, this course is specific. The focus is firmly on how to paint people in different poses.
I hope you’ll join me in January for one of these online workshops. They’re both filled with information and demos and I guarantee you’ll learn something that will enhance your painting practise.
About my online workshop:
All of the lessons are recorded and are available within 24 hours of the class. You will have access to the recordings for 60 days after the final lesson.
I assign homework (though I won’t make a scene if you didn’t have time to get to it. Life does get in the way, sometimes). I make comments and suggestions for how to improve the work you submit.
I encourage questions and engagement during the class and on our private message board. I want you to feel comfortable to fully participate in the class and to get the most out of the information that I present.
There are lots of demos and all are well-lit and in focus. I have invested in quality camera, mic and lights so that you get the most out of each lesson.
Happy painting!
