Simplifying Complex Flowers
Online demo at The Winslow Art Center
April 13
$40 USD
I’ll be sharing my process and strategies for painting complex, multi-petalled flowers in an online demo at The Winslow Art Center.
Some flowers can be daunting to paint. Roses, peonies, and other tricky blooms have so many small colour, value, and shape changes within them that painters can be overwhelmed trying to figure out what to leave in and what to diminish or edit out entirely.
My demo will show you how I find the sweet spot between too little and too much information in my florals. I want viewers to know the type of flower they’re looking at, but I don’t want them to see every petal that I saw. I want them to see the key colour changes and get a sense of the airy luminosity that caught my eye as I painted.
The demo is 1 1/2 hours long, and you’ll have a chance to ask questions as I work.
If you’re unable to be there on the day of the demo, no worries: there will be a recording that registrants can access for 60 days.
If you’ve always wanted to capture complex flowers with an economy of marks, I hope you’ll tune in on April 13.
Happy painting!
