Loosen Up Your Paintings
Online Tuesdays, March 14 - April 4
Winslow Art Center
By far the most common question painters ask me is “how do I loosen up my work?”
Many painters struggle with letting go of hard edges or, when they do, they end up with fuzzy, weak work that’s lost its rich colour. Artists are aiming for bold but ending up with tepid and confused.
Loosening up your paintings is possible.
There are strategies, tools, and techniques that can help you achieve dynamic edges and clean colour. Most importantly, there are ways of seeing and thinking that will naturally lead to work with movement and energy.
I’m offering a new online workshop at The Winslow Art Center:“Loosen Up Your Paintings”. During the 4 week class, I’ll demo and assign exercises that are targeted to guide you to a looser way of painting - one that prioritizes mark making, edges, colour and composition.
We’ll work from still life in the first class and move on to photo references in landscape and, if you choose, another genre of your choice. I’ll include a demo of figurative work.
We’ll also revise an existing, dry painting to strengthen its subject and address edges with intention and flair.
Our subject matter is not important; our process and mindset are. My aim is for you to paint with confidence and a joyful ease.
To register, please visit The Winslow Art Center site.
I hope to see you in class!
Do you have the workshops available in the evening (after 5 Pacific time) or on weekends?
Thanks, Ingrid. I might do that then. So glad you have recordings.
