There are several spots available in my online class, The Painted History: A Fresh Look at the Family Album and I’d love to see that change:) So, today’s email contains information about this upcoming workshop as well as inspiring student work from my most recent online, figurative workshop.
The Painted History course covers a lot of ground:
composing a scene
designing colour schemes for black and white, or colour-degraded images
painting graceful, proportional figures
developing a concept
using colour and temperature to best effect
considering brushwork and edges
And more!
It’s a fun course full of technical information, and it’s also meaningful. We work from our own photos of family and friends, current and past and there have been plenty of participants who told me that it’s reinvigorated their figurative practise.
Working from images of people that we know brings a depth to the process. Often, the subjects’ lives and personalities help the participants to design compelling images and choose colours which leads to thoughtful and considered work from engaged painters.
FAQ:
All lessons are recorded and are available for rewatching for 60 days after the final class.
There is a private message board for asking questions outside of class time and for uploading homework.
I welcome questions during class time and can answer coherently while I paint so there’s no downtime in the lesson.
There are low-stress, weekly critiques that are designed to help you improve. The artists’ names are never attached to the works as I discuss them so you don’t feel singled out like a deer in headlights. I celebrate what’s working well in each piece, and also give suggestions to help move the artist forward.
I’m including a few of the many wonderful works from the painters who participated in my recent figure workshop to show you what we get up to online.
There were over 200 images uploaded in the 4 week class(!) so know that you’ll be encouraged to work hard, but never pressured. My goal is to see everyone participate happily because they feel comfortable and supported by me and the rest of the group. If posting your work is not in your comfort zone, I’ll never comment on that.
I hope you’ll join us in May!
Happy eclipse day and happy painting!
