I’ll be talking about art with one of my favourite people: the vivacious and knowledgable Martha Jordan of the Winslow Art Center, on Thursday.
Martha has been hosting Art Chats every week since the pandemic sent us all online and they’ve been a great way for artists to get an insight into each other’s practises. I was one of the first art chat interviewees, and now I’m delighted to be asked to come back and talk to Martha again.
Honestly, the first time I did this, I had no idea what an artist talk was all about. Martha suggested I talk about my inspirations and I ended up showing works by many of the artists whose works have launched my own, but I didn’t show a single one of my pieces😁. I figured, if they were listening, they’d probably already seen my paintings so why spend time on them? Embarrassing in hindsight.
And yet, I’ve had so many people contact me over the past 3 years to tell me that they really enjoyed, and were inspired by, that talk. It just goes to show that you can follow the “wrong” path and it ends up being a good decision in the end.
This time, I’ll be showing fewer of my inspirations (though still some key ones) and more of my work. I’ll talk about how I got from a love of certain painters’ works, to my own explorations in paint and how I’ve gone beyond the initial inspirations into personal territory with my art.
It’s free to tune in in real time and you’ll be able to ask some questions if you’d like. If you can’t make it on Thursday, the chat is recorded and available on the Winslow site for you to watch at your leisure.

I hope you enjoy the discussion!
