The Painted History Part 2
March 13 - April 3 online
The Winslow Art Center
I’ve learned a lesson with this workshop: never name something Part 2 because it will scare off interested painters who haven’t taken Part 1. That seems obvious now after communicating with several artists who are uncertain about signing up, but the name seemed like a great idea at the time:)
Part 2 of The Painted History is not exclusively for people who have taken Part 1. It will extend the first workshop but is designed as a stand alone, online class.
In Part 1, we focused on colour, composition, and concept using family photos as the subject. Part 2 will both reinforce and extend those lessons.
The workshop is for painters who are passionate about colour; who want to create realism with an abstract component; and who love to paint figures.
So often, a photo reference traps us into a literal recreation of the subject in paint. My goal is take figurative work into personal, expressive, and explorative territory.
We’ll pull our own personal aesthetics into the workshop via an examination of works of art that we admire. Each painter will choose their own masterworks though I’ll supply images of works for anyone who can’t decide on a favourite artist and painting.
The workshop will hold challenges and lots of support through weekly, in-depth demos and critiques.
If you’ve been on the fence thanks to my ill-advised workshop naming, I hope you’ll jump off and register. It will be a fun and lively class that will push you out of your comfort zone and into exciting new approaches to figurative painting.

Good Morning, Ingrid! When will you be offering the Painted History workshop online again? ☺️
LOL! I'm a Southern gal and will probably never be at peace with a Canadian winter ;). I'll keep my eyes out for online - Thank you!
