2 online workshops and a demo
Summer is fully underway for me and I'm spending every out-of-studio minute in my garden, celebrating the amazing veggies that have grown huge from tiny seeds started in my house in April. Anybody want a zucchini? I have MANY😁
I'm also thinking about September when I'll resume online teaching for the Winslow Art Center.
I've taught several online workshops over the past year and am an enthusiastic convert to the format. Like many people, I wasn't sure that quality art instruction could be delivered via Zoom, but I've learned that it absolutely can. The key to success is, in part, that students have time to work on concepts and get my feedback. We cover a lot of ground but, because the information is spread over 4 weeks, it doesn't feel rushed or overwhelming. There's plenty of time for questions, experiments, and revisions and I've seen some amazing work posted in our private chat room. I've also had the pleasure of watching painters improve steadily from the first to the last class.
If you'd like to join me for an online workshop, I'll be repeating two topics that have been really well received:
"Florals: Direct and Indirect"
Saturdays, Sept 18 - Oct 9
and
"Color and Shape: Elements for Dynamic Paintings"
Tuesdays, Sept 14 - Oct 5
Both classes are focused on still life painting, but, like every workshop that I teach, I consider the subject to be simply a vehicle for teaching universal concepts about color and painting. These concepts can be applied to any genre. Recently, one of my students thrilled me by commented that what she learned in my color class has transformed her approach to plein air painting. That meant a lot to me!
As well as the workshops, I’ll be doing an online demo that aims to demystify the complexity of the painting process. I’ll discuss brushes, oil painting mediums, and surfaces and show the characteristics and effects of each. Bring any burning questions that you have about the nuts and bolts of oil painting and I’ll be happy to answer them during the demo.
“Making Sense of Your Materials”
Friday, Aug 13
Both the workshops and the demo are recorded and available for you to rewatch as often as you like for up to 30 days after the demo and the final class.
You can find out more by following the links to the Winslow Art Center website. I hope to see you online!
Happy painting!
